Job Summary:

If you are a motivated individual looking to begin a career in underwriting, this is a perfect opportunity. The Kingstone Junior Underwriting position develops and prepares an individual for a rewarding career path and provides hands-on experience. The Junior Underwriter will primarily be responsible for learning Underwriting principles and standards. This will be a position that will prepare you for an underwriting career and develop your professional skills. The Junior Underwriter will work with senior underwriting team members and take appropriate courses and training programs to move into the underwriting role. You will have on-the-job training to learn technical underwriting skills and build core competencies. 


This is a remote position. Our customers are located in the Northeast so candidates must be able to work during normal EST business hours.

Salary Range: $23.00 - $30.00 per hour

What you will do:
  • Learn the workflows, guidelines, and processing steps within the business unit.
  • Develop skills to underwrite and assess a risk based on company guidelines.
  • Learn core competencies and basic underwriting skills to evaluate new and renewal risks.
  • Formulate and communicate recommendations based on learned underwriting skills.
  • Communicate with the broker what is needed for the renewal and any changes to the terms and conditions of the policy.
  • Underwrite endorsement requests from brokers and forward them to the underwriting assistant to issue.
  • Complete continuing educational courses focused on underwriting fundamentals.
What you will bring:
  • A college degree (preferred).
  • Attention to detail and self-motivated.
  • Previous Insurance experience a plus.
  • Ability to learn through self-study.
  • Strong work ethic, verbal & written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
